About Maverix

Photo of Emily Helms.

Maverix is Emily Helms, a designer & developer specializing in creating unforgettable  websites and search engine optimization (SEO). I work with small to midsize companies, consultants, and creative professionals. I’m currently based in Muncie, Indiana in the US, but I’ll work remotely with you from wherever you are.

I’ve been creating websites since the early 2000s. The feeling of bringing something I’ve created to life, interacting with it, and seeing it change people’s lives for the better never gets old. I have a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky in business administration, and a master’s degree in urban planning & design from Ball State University. The design theory and workshopping skills I honed during my graduate studies translate well to web design. I also graduated from Eleven Fifty Academy's UX/UI Design bootcamp in December 2020 and use what I learned in that program to create better on-page experiences for website visitors.

Outside of work, I’m a musician (voice and guitar), I geek out over math and physics, and I tutor kids and adults in math, music, coding, and design. I love traveling, and I’m always looking for opportunities to improve my French and Spanish. Mostly, though, you’ll find me hanging out with my kitty office assistant, Iris, who is great at keeping me on schedule but spends most of her time sleeping on the job.

Utility Company Mobile Site Redesign

I looked at what wasn't working in a utility company's mobile site, redesigned the UI to make it more user friendly, and prototyped a user flow.
